Marjorie
Coristine is licensed to provide psychological services to
adults. She works with individuals who are experiencing
life-challenges or seeking greater life-fulfillment. Her
treatment areas include self-esteem, body image, eating disorders, pain
conditions, trauma, depression, grief, adjustment to injury and
illness, stress and anxiety management, and managing life transitions.
In
her therapeutic work she uses cognitive, behavioural, ACT (Acceptance
and Change Therapy), narrative, psycho-dynamic, psycho-educational, and
supportive therapeutic strategies. She tailors her therapeutic
approach to each client’s needs. She explores current issues,
problems, and emotional responses within the context of the personal
history, circumstances, hopes and dreams of each client. She
endeavours to provide care with deep interest, compassion and
sensitivity.
She graduated from the University of Calgary with a
B.Sc., and from Carleton University with an M.A. in psychology.
She coordinated large research studies regarding health services issues
for several years, including end-stage breast cancer, and caregiver
stress and burn-out, and has published articles in psychological and
medical journals about these issues. She completed a further
course of study and supervised practice in order to become a registered
counsellor with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in 2003.
Prior to entering exclusively into private practice, Marjorie had
extensive experience treating a broad range of problems at the Royal
Ottawa Hospital in the General Psychiatry and Psycho-social
Rehabilitation Departments, and lead groups at Hopewell Eating Disorder
Support Centre.
She believes in providing collaborative,
effective treatment, which is informed by current research and Best
Practice Guidelines. She continuously seeks professional renewal
and development. She is a member of the Canadian Psychological
Association and the Ontario Association of Psychological Associates,
The Canadian Diabetes Association, and the College of Psychologists of
Ontario.
